❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Are the planet positions accurate?

Yes! OrbitView uses real orbital elements and Kepler's equations to calculate positions. However, some simplifications are made for visualization. For scientific work, use NASA's HORIZONS system.

Can I use this for my school project?

Absolutely! OrbitView is perfect for educational use. Feel free to use screenshots, embed it, or link to it. Just provide attribution.

Why isn't Pluto with the other planets?

Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006. You can still view it by enabling "Dwarf Planets" in the controls!

Can I see other celestial objects?

Currently, OrbitView shows planets, major moons, dwarf planets, and the ISS. We're planning to add comets, asteroids, and more in future updates!

Does it work offline?

The basic visualization works offline, but real-time ISS tracking requires an internet connection.

Can I contribute to the project?

Yes! OrbitView is open source. Check out our GitHub repository to contribute.

My preferences aren't saving

OrbitView uses localStorage to save preferences. Make sure your browser allows localStorage and you're not in private/incognito mode.

How often is the ISS position updated?

The ISS position is fetched from the API every 5 seconds when the feature is enabled.
